{"id":2400,"date":"2005-03-01T11:00:59","date_gmt":"2005-03-01T11:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nimsay.blackglass.org\/2005\/03\/01\/no-execution-for-minors\/"},"modified":"2005-03-01T11:00:59","modified_gmt":"2005-03-01T11:00:59","slug":"no-execution-for-minors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackglass.org\/?p=2400","title":{"rendered":"no-execution-for-minors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court just ruled that it&#8217;s against the Constitution to sentence <a href=\"\/%22http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2005-03-01-scotus-juvenile_x.htm%22\">teens to the death penalty<\/a> when the crimes were committed before they were even adults.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The executions, the court said, were unconstitutionally cruel&#8230;<br \/>\nJustices in 2002 banned the execution of the mentally retarded, also citing the Constitution&#8217;s Eighth Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishments.<br \/>\nThe court had already outlawed executions for those who were 15 and younger when they committed their crimes.<br \/>\nTuesday&#8217;s ruling prevents states from making 16- and 17-year-olds eligible for execution.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Maybe now the states will concentrate on finding help for these kids instead of locking them up and throwing away the key.  They do horrible things, but have we forgotten that they&#8217;re still kids?<br \/>\nThe opinion is <a href=\"\/%22http:\/\/news.findlaw.com\/usatoday\/docs\/deathpen\/rprsmmns30105opn.pdf%22\"><i>Potosi Correctional Center v.
